This submission is presented by the Papua Solidarity Network (PSN), a coalition of Indigenous Peoples, civil society organizations, environmental defenders, human rights advocates, and climate justice movements across the Pacific and beyond, of which Humanity and Nature Indigenous Women's Association Inc, haniwai.org is a member organization. The submission brings attention to the urgent and interconnected challenges facing Indigenous Peoples in West Papua, including large-scale deforestation, militarization, forced displacement, biodiversity loss, environmental degradation, and persistent human rights violations. It highlights the vital role of Indigenous Peoples as custodians of one of Earth's last climate strongholds and emphasizes the importance of Indigenous knowledge, customary governance systems, and community-led stewardship in protecting forests, biodiversity, and climate resilience. In line with the mandate of the LCIPP, this submission calls for the recognition and protection of Indigenous Peoples' rights, meaningful participation in climate decision-making processes, the safeguarding of traditional knowledge systems, and urgent international action to address the environmental and human rights impacts affecting Indigenous communities and their ancestral territories in West Papua.
