Background

Collective Approach 1 of the Baku Workplan of the Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples Platform (LCIPP) seeks to shift the global climate change discussions under the UNFCCC process to incorporate the values, worldviews, intergenerational wisdom and knowledge of Indigenous Peoples and knowledge of local communities, thus fostering a profound connection with nature. It also aims to enhance global climate action by elevating the recommendations, practical examples and insights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities, emphasizing their climate leadership and nature stewardship.

As part of the activities under Collective Approach 1, an Informal Contributors Briefing has been scheduled to build the capacity of Indigenous Peoples and local community representatives to engage in the sessions of the COP.

Objectives

  • Raise awareness and understanding among Indigenous Peoples and among local communities about the UNFCCC process, in particular to the 30th session of the Conference of Parties (COP 30)
  • Facilitate informed participation in the 14th meeting of the FWG (FWG 14) and the mandated LCIPP events at COP 30

Approach

The virtual Informal Contributors Briefing and training workshop will be held for 2 hours and use interactive and participatory methods to engage Indigenous Peoples and local communities. The workshop will include presentations, interactive activities, and open dialogues.
