This is an informal dialogue to facilitate participation of youth and other relevant stakeholders in the LCIPP annual Youth Roundtable to be held during COP 27. 

The annual youth roundtable, as part of activity 8 of the LCIPP second three-year workplan (2022-2024), will be convened in conjunction with COP 27. 

Overview 

• Part I Informal dialogue with indigenous youth and youth from local communities will focus on the important role of indigenous youth and youth from local communities, and concrete ways to advance the engagement of youth in designing and implementing climate policies and actions at all levels.  

• Part II Innovative ways to share the knowledge and practices of indigenous peoples, and local knowledge systems is a training to transmit the knowledge and practices of indigenous peoples, and local knowledge systems on camera, responding the outstanding mandate to enhance engagement of indigenous peoples and local communities in diverse and innovative ways in addressing and responding to climate change, per decision 16/CP.26.   

Part I Informal dialogue with indigenous youth and youth from local communities 

Objectives: 

• To facilitate and advance the discussion about the unique role and ways to strengthen the engagement of indigenous youth and youth from local communities in climate action and UNFCCC process; 

• To catalyze meaningful relationships between Parties and indigenous youth, and youth from local communities;  

• To initiate the discussion on enhancing youth engagement in climate policy development and implementation at all levels and facilitate youth participation in the annual LCIPP youth roundtable dialogue.  

Part II Innovative ways to communicate with impact: sharing the knowledge, practices, and leadership of indigenous peoples and local communities 

Objectives: 

The initial training session of this series will take place in conjunction with SB 56, the mid-year UNFCCC session of the subsidiary bodies (June 2022).  

The training will build the capacity of indigenous peoples and local communities to use diverse ways including audio and visual formats to share their experiences mitigating and adapting to climate change. This event will serve as a training for indigenous peoples both behind and in front of the camera, aiming to equip them with the tools to share their stories of practices of climate leadership. 

• To promote sustainable practices of indigenous peoples and local communities through short videos and other forms of media; 

• To build the capacity of indigenous peoples and local communities to structure and transmit information on camera and other forms of media; 

• To amplify the voices of indigenous peoples and local communities in share their stories to enrich the global effort to address climate change and reorient the way people interact with nature.
