Advancing meaningful participation of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in the UNFCCC process
The Facilitative Working Group (FWG of the LCIPP) warmly invites you to a virtual LCIPP training workshop and an informal contributors’ briefing.
The virtual training workshop is the third in a series of modules being implemented as part of Activity 4 of the LCIPP workplan 2022-2024. It aims to strengthen the active participation of Indigenous Peoples and local communities, including youth, in the UNFCCC process and strengthen their contribution to the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
Immediately after the virtual training workshop, the informal LCIPP contributors' briefing will follow to present ways to meaningfully engage in the 10th meeting of the Facilitative Working Group (FWG 10) and the LCIPP mandated events at COP28.
The event will take place over two timeslots to enable wider participation across different time zones in the following time slots:
- Session 1: 7th November, 6:00 – 8:00 PM CET (Interpretation available: Spanish -tbc)

Objectives
- Raise awareness and understanding among Indigenous Peoples and local communities about mitigation, mitigative action, the just transition, and response measures within the UNFCCC process, the LCIPP, and the implementation of the Paris Agreement
- Strengthen capacity of Indigenous Peoplesand local communities to actively engage in climate policymaking processes at national and international levels
- Identify concrete ways for values and rights of Indigenous Peoples and local knowledge systems, to inform the UNFCCC process through LCIPP mandated events and Action Spaces at COP28
- Facilitate informed participation in the 10th meeting of the FWG and COP28
