COP Presidencies have a tradition in recent years of convening a dialogue with Parties, representatives of local communities and indigenous peoples and other relevant stakeholders. These dialogues have played a constructive role in the establishment of the Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples Platform (LCIPP) at COP21.
COP24 established a Facilitative Working Group (FWG) of the Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples Platform (LCIPP), and the modalities for the development of a workplan for the full implementation of the functions, with balanced representation of local communities and indigenous peoples and Parties.
The 1st meeting of the FWG of the LCIPP in conjunction with SB50 marked another milestone in making the LCIPP fully operational. The FWG created a draft initial two-year workplan for the period 2020–2021 for implementing the functions of the LCIPP.
