Training workshop for Parties, constituted bodies, and other stakeholders: “Respectfully engaging with local communities and indigenous peoples through human-rights-based engagement: examples from national and regional climate policymaking”

Description: Harnessing the capacities of Parties, constituted bodies, and other stakeholders to work with indigenous peoples and local communities in the context of climate change is an important step towards boosting climate efforts and ambition. As it has been stated in several IPCC reports, including the 6th Assessment Report, the efficacy of decision-making and governance has been enhanced through the involvement of indigenous peoples, and adaptation efforts have benefited from the inclusion of indigenous knowledge and local knowledge, a crucial element in averting, minimizing, and addressing the adverse impacts of climate change.

Objectives:
This training will take place in conjunction with SB 56. The training aims to:
• enhance the knowledge and capacity for Parties, constituted bodies, and other stakeholders for meaningful engagement with indigenous peoples and local communities;
• share good practice on respectful engagement with indigenous experts and those from local communities in national strategies and policies;
• curate information that can be reflected in guidance materials and recommendations on enhancing of indigenous peoples and engagement of local communities in national climate policymaking.

This workshop is mandated under activity 5 of the LCIPP second three-year workplan (2022-2024).
